The holidays slowed me down a bit on updates, but here goes again!!
A Christmas gift for my sister of the spoiled furry critter in our house, for when her new house comes along.
A veggie painting for mom to replace the awful, unfinished oil still life that has been in the kitchen at home for far too long.
& the accordion book for Type & Image!
Hope everyone's holidays were happy!!

Halfway there..
Well, more than halfway.
Finals. The halfway mark for this year.
The LAST year.
((I told you I'd finish up eventually dad....))
I've been up all night working on a Type & Image promo piece, but I'm super excited about it.
Plus some other things in the works that will be finishing up soon- so keep checking:)
In the meantime- I ran a portion of an after school art program at Clinton School in Chelsea this semester. We did a public art project with the kids that will be displayed outside of their auditorium for their Christmas open house. The kids were a blast- they were all middle schoolers & way cooler than we ever were. They all created birds ((they're everywhere lately)), starting with newspaper & tape, ending with fabric, glitter, tassels- you name it. They shocked us with their creativity & enthusiasm. It reminded me that while I don't want to be a teacher, I do need to find a kids program to be a part of. It keeps me in tune with everything I loved about art before I worried about having a career.
This was my example to show them. Please pardon the not so wonderful photograph.
& because Elena & I were pretty artistically particular & proud of our holiday creation:

"We've Evolved"
I am not thrilled that Rolling Stone is shrinking down it's size.
Glue opposed to staples I can handle, but conforming to the rest of magazine's size standards??
Come on Rolling Stone..you're better than that.

Inking up...
©2008.StephanieEveGeorgopoulos
Greg wants an old map inspired tattoo of a compass rose with a fleur de les & his last name. I present to you round one's sketches.
I'm spending more time in the studio, but doing mostly research, concept, digital & written things...
I did pull an all nighter on Saturday. It was curiously peaceful ...but slightly creepy being the only one. At 10am I went to the diner & had tea & scrambeled eggs while talking to mom & dad on the phone. It was almost like being home.

Busy, busy, busy...
Paintings soon.

The sunflowers we ((mostly Elena)) grew are about 6ft tall & looked absolutely beautiful a few weekends ago, when the air was warm & the sun was out.
I suggest clicking on the images to see the detail because I was amazed & you should be, too.

Is a post a post without a picture??
I'll pretend it is.
Exciting things:
- Today I made coffee & pancakes in honor of the last official day over summer vacation I may ever have the pleasure of.
- However, tomorrow shall be the last first day of school ever.
- I should be strolling ((running?)) around the set of The Electric Company within days!!
- The fish painting will ((ambitiously)) be complete by the end of next weekend.
- In a few days I will have a new, fully functioning Powerbook Pro!!
- STUDIO space's are handed out tomorrow!! & I'm thrilled to have some people welcoming me into their art gang:)
The world is shining extra bright lately.
I hope all is well in the your lives, where ever you may be!!
***Thesis pictures coming soon!! With an operating photoshop, I'll be able to fix em up & get them here in no time!!

Gone fishing.
I finally have a topo- graphical map of the waters of the Nantucket Sound in my possession & am painting some fish!! Watercolors are slow for me, but so far so good. It will be a bit tricky, as the map is larger than my drawing desk & insists on curling up, but I'm pretending I love to paint fish & that the map is just taking on a vivacious life of it's own!!
A touch of fake gold..

At the end of a nostalgic night...
Instead of telling myself I don't have enough time to start something, I keep doing little pieces, or drawings in which the only preparation is opening a pen cap, the only cleanup- covering it. It's working with my schedule these couple weeks, but I'm hoping to start my 3x4ft painting next week. I'm quickly getting over these smaller sizes.
A small drawing done so I wouldn't get absorbed in the computer or my thoughts for a few hours.
Mid-Makeover...

This guy is getting a makeover...

I believe I began a giraffe craze after my visit to the Bronx Zoo, but abandoned them all halfway through. I'm picking them all up now with new ideas & more motivation.
He is in brown & black ink & in for a radical change that may or may not be fabulous ((or disastrous)). Keep an eye out...
I'm leaving the city until Friday- hoping he will be complete when I return..

Oskar, the Jumping Bulldog.
©2008.StephanieEveGeorgopoulos
Acrylic/massonite. 7x9.5in.
((the paws need a little more tlc...))
Oskar is one of my newest friend in Astoria.
He is a French Bulldog, & looks like a little cartoon character.
I recommend visiting him at The Jumping Bulldog if you ever find yourself around Ditmars.

In the middle of the Mediterranean Sea..
Cyprus has run out of water, which is a pretty unsettling thought. Eight years ago I stayed in the village of Pyla & water was delievered two/three times a week. There were two chicken coups- brown ones for eating, which ones for eggs. There was a long dirt road that led to fig trees & the village church. There was my 94-year old great uncle, Turkish boys on mopeds & more second & third cousins than I knew possible....

Sidewalk Shopping
As I was walking to Ditmars to get my hair cut today, I passed a semi old fashioned, but potentially really amazing mirror on the sidewalk awaiting a fate it seemed too promising to endure. And so I dragged my roommate out the door to help me get it home, cleaned, sanded, painted & now have a new addition to my apartment. It won't be complete without some big, black shiny things on the corners, but a picture is soon to come....
I believe that was the first time I turned someone's sidewalk trash to treasure, & it was thrilling.
I also made edamame soup two nights ago. It tasted better than it looked, but I suppose cooking is an art??

Grapefruit Reading
Where trees are taller than buildings..
I've been slacking. Not too horribly on creating art, but certainly on posting.
I spent some time in Connecticut, where I hiked, rode a motorcycle, swam, discovered random sculpture filled backyards, went to the Peabody Museum, explored Meridan & did some on location drawings at a private airport. This was quite possibly the biggest dandelion I have ever seen...
I think another visit is in order for blueberry picking & Bubble tea.
I have three pieces in the works..
Happy hot humid summer, all.

Garden Friend..
This little critter found his way through the jungle of tomato plants, & towards my new camera.
((which is absolutely amazing, for the record))
Bussing it back to NY now..anyone who does the NY-Boston route....BOLT BUS...free wireless the whole way, & outlets in case your computer dies. $15. This will make my summer heaven:)
Back to painting in a day or two..
